Good News of Great Joy: Luke 2:10-14

He sees you when you’re sleeping.
He knows when you’re awake.
He knows if you’ve been bad or good,
So be good for goodness’ sake!
Oh you better watch out!
You better not cry!...
What a horrible song! Christmas isn’t about performance evaluations! Instead, from Luke 2:10- 14 (NIV), we read:
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
And on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Here we read of a merciful, gracious, joyful God bringing good news, great joy, a heavenly gift free of charge to all who believe in it, a praising angel choir, and glory for God and peace for humans.
Don’t let Christmas turn into a performance review. We’d all fail it. Let it be a time of giving grace and receiving grace from a gracious God through the gift of his Son Jesus Christ.
